BAD CALL!
All referees will eventually be heckled and questioned. Don.t take it personally. There are times that all referees make .mistakes. according to the nature of the call and which team is penalized.
Players, coaches and spectators will be disgruntled. They may yell, scream, call you names and even become threatening. This type of behavior is not tolerated in Region 1447.
Disagreements happen, spectators become disappointed, and they have a right to be so, but they do not have the right to direct abuse to the referee.
All our referees are volunteers and we thank them for their help, and want them to continue to referee.
Abuse towards referees is not allowed, regardless of the nature of the action. We expect all referees to act in a professional and safe manner at all times.
The trained referee is the official AYSO representative on the pitch at the time of the match.
It is the duty of the referee to oversee that all matches are played in a safe, fair and fun manner.
Players play, coaches coach and spectators cheer.
On occasion, spectators. go from cheers to open defiance.
As a representative of AYSO and the match official, referees should approach the coach to help control the rowdy spectator(s).
The referee should never approach the spectator(s) directly. Let the coaches help. They usually have an association with the spectator(s) and handle the situation in a non-threatening manner.
Should a spectator become disruptive and uncontrollable, the coach should be informed that the match will be suspended (the clock should never stop) until the spectator leaves the field of play, out of hearing distance from the pitch. The coach should ask the spectator to leave.
The match should be restated when it is safe to continue play.
If a spectator refuses to leave or threatens violence in any form, the match should be suspended indefinitely, the referee should inform both coaches of the decision, and a full report should be made to the regional authorities. The referee, coaches and teams should leave the field of play to a safe enviornment.
